Meditation is a practice that will give you relief, create connection, as well as beneficial habits and feelings, such as managing stress and the health issues stress creates. It also helped me find a positive outlook, nurture healthy sleep patterns and even develop increased pain tolerance.

I am using meditation as a stress management tool

Everybody seems to be feeling more and more stressed out these days, and meditation and mindfulness techniques are considered a key element to lower your daily stress.

While a daily practice may not change the actual number of stressors in your life, it can help you to respond better and more calmly to stressful events.

When we start to experience symptoms of stress in our lives, we can feel anxious and worried, irritable, and often snappy and argumentative. You might also find you have problems sleeping, low levels of energy and fatigue. You may notice you have trouble concentrating or experience cloudy thinking and find yourself clenching your jaws or grinding your teeth at night.

On the other hand, your daily meditation practice will give you energy, release anxiety and calm your nervous system. When you reduce your stress, your body benefits. Studies have shown that meditation increases optimism, strengthens memory and focus, improves sleep, lowers blood pressure and increases feelings of calm, connection and wellbeing.

You’re ready for this class if you are …

Why Meditation?

My mantra is

'Calm the body and the mind will follow'

When we meditate, we are taking the time to be curious about what we're thinking and feeling, as though we are looking at stress through a new window. In this conscious and intentional way, we can dramatically change how we view and relate to stress. Meditation can also help alleviate stress by improving your ability to deal with difficult emotions, leading to a better mood and better ability to handle stress.

The body and mind are so connected that what affects one will affect the other. In times of stress, we often ignore the signals our body is sending.

However, with meditation and mindfulness, we can learn to listen and be more in tune with our bodies and what they are trying to tell us.

We can then make informed choices on how we nurture our health and wellbeing, and stop stress in its tracks.

The introduction to each meditation will teach you how to reflect on your meditation. You may want to keep a journal to note anything that repeatedly comes up for you and to track your progress. You will soon see for yourself how much this simple daily practice is benefitting your health and wellbeing.

There are, of course, other options available when it comes to stress-management. Many of these different tools — such as physical exercise, breathing techniques, and hands-on therapies like reflexology and massage — can help us in the moment. But when it comes to seeing a long-term reduction in stress, when we meditate consistently daily, the science demonstrates that it is an effective intervention.

It's capable of altering the physical anatomy of the brain—all with as little input as 10 minutes a day.

Meditation isn't about eliminating stress; That's virtually impossible - it's about managing it. It's often down to how we perceive stress. By altering our mindset, we can reduce the impact on our mental, emotional and physical health.
